BATEC Student Leadership
BATEC's Student Leadership initiative is designed to focus on successful student engagement. Student Leaders are identified as a diverse group of 5 to 10 candidates selected by faculty members at each partner institution to assist in recruitment, retention and career areas. These students provide needed resources as well as a unique perspective in attracting under-served student populations.
The students participate in an orientation meeting to include: an overview of BATEC, the job description, the pay rate, the rules of engagement, and the paper work for contracts and timesheets. Student leaders are required to attend a training session that includes an overview of their leadership role and receive information about the college division programs, admissions, and student support services.
The BATEC student leaders have the following role:- Support staff to the division's goals to advance its responsibilities to the BATEC grant.
- Develop their own leadership, awareness, interest and skills in the IT arena through the BATEC and Division opportunities.
- Assist division in creating packets of material for visiting students;
- Help with set up, registration, ushering of visitors and serve as campus tour guides;
- Participate on student panels to share their experiences as students;
- Assist admissions in email or calling campaigns to students after the visit; encourage prospective students to apply, enroll, or to let them know about missing information on their application;
- Invite prospective students to campus events, to remind them of financial aid application;
- Assist with student orientation during admitted students open house, help with wrap up/clean up;
- Team up with faculty and admissions staff members during onsite high school visits;
- Provide technical and tutoring support to local CBOs;
- Provide computer support across the college and divisions; serve as computer tutors at local high schools.
