BATEC Community College Fairs

BATEC collaborates with its partners to offer annual Community College Fairs for area students. These events are structured to provide information about educational pathways and opportunities offered by the regional Community Colleges to seniors who have not yet finalized their college plans.

BATEC and TechBoston partnered with TechPrep, Roxbury Community College, Career & Technical Education Office, and three BPS High Schools to organize the first annual event in 2005 at the Reggie Lewis Track Athletic Center. Typically over 200 students area high schools attend the program. This fair offers the opportunity for current community college students share their experiences on the benefits of attending a community college with attendees. These presentations are then followed up with students visiting the community colleges and exploring college application options.

Surveys filled out by past attendees indicated that approximately 66% of the students learned that community colleges could help them prepare for future educational successes; 70% planned to attend a community college; and 34% believed that community colleges will assist them with college cost and transfer to a 4-year college.

BATEC and its partners continue to hold the Metro North College and Career Fair in early Spring and the Boston Community College Fair in late Spring each year. Please visit our News & Events page for updates on each event throughout the year. You may also see information on past events in the "Archives" section of this page.
