Sun Academic Initiative

Presenter: Dave Nelson, Sun Microsystems

The Sun Academic Initiative is a program designed to create a collaborative relationship between Sun and academic institutions. Courses delivered through this program will introduce students to Sun Microsystems technologies, prepare them for industry leading certification and equip them with marketable IT job skills. As part of this program, selected colleges and universities become Authorized Sun Education Centers, enabling those institutions to deliver training on Sun technologies to their students. In addition, students can obtain free access to selected online courses through the Sun Web Learning Center.

 
Architecture for Voice, Video and Integrated Data

Cisco in the Higher Education Environment

Several different models will be given for teaching basic networking, advanced networking, security, and wireless in both two year community colleges and four year college/university contexts. Models will include courses whose primary goal is preparation for the work force, and hybrid courses that combine research elements with hands-on labs. The Cisco CCNA, CCNP, Security, and Wireless curriculums will provide a springboard for our discussions.

Classroom Partnerships: How PTC Can Help You Educate the Innovators of Tomorrow

This presentation will explain why industry cares about the technological literacy of high school and college graduates. John will also describe PTC’s programs to help K12 and university educators prepare young people for tech careers by providing 3D design software for classroom use. Stephen Smith, technology coordinator at Newburyport High School, will discuss how he and a physics teacher use PTC’s Pro/DESKTOP software to help students grasp the engineering design process and science concepts.

The Cisco Security Agent for Intrusion Prevention

Presenter: Charlie Kenney, Cisco Security Agent (CSA) Specialist for the Northeast

The Cisco Security Agent provides threat protection for server and desktop computing systems, also known as endpoints. CSA goes beyond conventional host and desktop security solutions by identifying and preventing malicious behavior before it can occur, thereby removing potential known and unknown ("Day Zero") security risks that threaten enterprise networks and applications. The Cisco Security Agent aggregates and extends multiple endpoint security functions by providing host intrusion prevention, distributed firewall, malicious mobile code protection, operating system integrity assurance, and audit log consolidation all within a single agent package. Charlie Kenney will provide an overview of behavior-based intrusion prevention technology, the Cisco Security Agent architecture and features, followed by an attack demonstration.

This seminar explains the case study teaching method and how to use it to explore issues in IT. It will focus on how to research and write a case study and accompanying teaching notes. Discussions will also cover how case studies differ from problem-based learning and how varying the teaching notes allows one case to be taught from different perspectives to different audiences.
