IT Security Issues

Location: Bunker Hill Community College

This course presented an overview of the threats to information technology infrastructure and intellectual property with an emphasis on the detection and prevention of intrusions or theft. The protection of services such as the world-wide web, file sharing and email was analyzed. The vulnerabilities and hardening of major operating systems were also discussed. The components of the course detail the ten domain of the common body of knowledge leading to the CISSP certification.

IT Essentials: PC Hardware and Software-Charlestown High School
Instructor: Leo Carey, Charlestown High School

This course, sponsored by Hewlett-Packard Company, presents an in-depth exposure to computer hardware and operating systems. Students learn the functionality of hardware and software components as well as suggested best practices in maintenance, and safety issues. Through hands on activities and labs, students learn how to assemble and configure a computer, install operating systems and software, and troubleshoot hardware and software problems. In addition, an introduction to networking is included. This course helps students prepare for CompTIA's A+ certification.

IT Standards, Skills and Knowledge: Curriculum Development Workshop
Location: Middlesex Community College

This course provided faculty with a "how to" course for integrating skill standards into existing curriculum and creating coursework to address the requisite standards, skills and knowledge sets. The workshop included processes for a model development; detailed examples of learning components, outcomes, competencies, sample activities, curriculum map; assessments guidelines; and implementation recommendations.

Topics in Information Architecture

Instructors: Information Architects from Molecular, FleetBoston Financial, Interactive Factory

This course focused on a systematic process for developing the architecture of a Web site to help people find and use information efficiently by incorporating user accessibility cues and effective layout principles. Topics included user profile analysis, organization schemes, interface design, navigation systems, accessibility guidelines and tools, and usability testing.
